Green Arrow Co-Lab offers programming focused on an alternative and progressive juvenile justice solution that helps individuals connect to nature, build confidence, and explore their passions.
We fill the gap in holistic and culturally relevant mental health services through trauma-informed and culturally responsive programming that centers gardening and mindfulness.
Your donation is crucial to support the young people in our communities of need and helps nourish healing-centered gardens for young people impacted by systemic harm.
Without this program our participants have shared they they would not have:
- “Reconnected and built a deeper relationship with my mother.”
- “Learned how to grieve the loss of my brother in a healthy way, vs only seeking revenge.”
- “Understood the connection between our land and my heritage and ancestors.”
- “Grown a passion for gardening and feeding my family! Now I’m looking to change my career pathway based on the cultivation skills I’ve learned.”
We are raising money to:
- continue offering our in-depth programming that encompasses justice issues, inner healing, community connection, environmental sustainability, and self-efficacy.
- accept more students to our fellowship program (we have space for 8-10 students but had over 15 qualified applicants for our third cohort!)
- develop Green Arrow CoLab as an alternative Healing Center location for youth
As Los Angeles and California work to shut-down juvenile halls and camps, we are working to develop a location for intensive healing and transformation that acts as a reentry facility and/or diversion program for those facing possible sentencing.
Join us as we cultivate a community of youth advocates and activists, reduce recidivism, and inspire younger generations to find their passion.
Why We Do This Work:
50-75% of the 2 million youth encountering the juvenile justice system meet the criteria for a mental health disorder (Lee A. Underwood)
L.A. County spends more than $800,000 a year to incarcerate one young person (Youth Justice, 2020)
Lack of funding has long been one of the main causes of our failure to provide the services needed to keep children out of the juvenile justice system (Mental Health America, 2015)
Almost 60% of LA County voters support investing in care over punishment. (Youth Justice, 2020)
Measure J allocates at least 10% (~$400MM) of the County’s locally generated, unrestricted funding to address racial injustice through…alternatives to incarceration. (more here)
